How to prove ROI to your club sponsors (so they renew)

Most community clubs are good at signing sponsors and bad at keeping them. The reason is almost always the same: when renewal time comes around, the club can't actually show what the sponsor got for their money.

A logo on a fence and a shout-out on finals day feel valuable, but they're impossible to measure. If your sponsor's marketing manager can't put a number next to their spend, your club is the easiest line item to cut. The fix is to treat sponsorship like the commercial relationship it is — and give sponsors real, quantifiable proof of return.

What sponsors actually want

Local businesses sponsor clubs for three reasons: genuine community goodwill, brand exposure, and new customers. You can't do much about the first, but you can measure the other two — if you capture the right data.

  • Reach — how many members and families saw or engaged with the sponsor.
  • Spend — how much money members actually directed to the sponsor's business.
  • Deliverables — the specific things you promised (signage, socials, newsletter mentions) and whether you delivered them.

Turn goodwill into numbers

The single most powerful thing you can show a sponsor is member spend. When members record what they've spent with a club sponsor — and upload the receipt — you can report back an actual dollar figure: “Your club community spent $8,400 with your business this season.” That's a number a sponsor can take to their own boss.

In ClubApp's Sponsorship module, members record transactions and upload receipts against each sponsor. The club gets quantifiable ROI reporting per sponsor, plus deliverable tracking so nothing you promised slips through the cracks.

Set tiers and deliverables up front

Vague sponsorship arrangements are impossible to report on. Define sponsor tiers with clear deliverables at the start of the season, so both sides know exactly what's included — and so your reporting writes itself at renewal time.

Change spending behaviour, don't just measure it

Reporting proves value. Loyalty prize draws create it. When members earn entries into a prize draw for shopping with club sponsors, they change where they spend — and that lift in spend is exactly the ROI story your sponsors want to hear next year.

Make renewal a formality

Walk into the renewal conversation with a one-page report: reach, total member spend, and every deliverable ticked off. You're no longer asking for a favour — you're showing a return. That's the difference between a sponsor who renews and one who quietly walks.
