Managing a junior sports team: parent and player accounts done right

Most apps assume one player, one phone. Junior sport doesn't work that way — a ten-year-old's game gets confirmed by a parent, remembered by a parent, and driven to by a parent. When the app ignores that, RSVPs get missed and coaches chase.

One account, two people who can use it

A parent and a young player can jointly manage one account. Both can set availability, both get the reminders, and it no longer matters who's holding the phone on a Thursday night. If your child is old enough for their own sign-in, they can have that too — with a guardian still attached in the background.

Invite a parent, keep the coach in the loop

Setting it up is a single invite: bring a parent in to help manage an account, or let a child sign in to their own. When a parent RSVPs on a player's behalf, the coach can see who set the response — so there's never a question of whether the reply came from the player or the parent.

Chat is where junior clubs get nervous, and rightly so. You decide whether a guardian joins the team chat, so parents can stay across team news without a child being in an unsupervised thread. It's the safeguarding default junior sport actually needs, built in rather than bolted on.

Shared care, handled safely

Plenty of juniors are co-parented, and that's exactly where most apps fall over. When a child has more than one guardian, the club handles guardian changes — another guardian can't quietly remove you on their own. A removal is a request the club reviews, so no one gets cut out of their own child's account overnight.

Both guardians also stay in the loop. If a child's RSVP changes, both of you see it, along with the history of what changed — so there's no arguing over whether Saturday was a yes or a no. And if something needs a quiet word, a guardian can message the club privately from "My children", away from the team chat.
