Membership card vs pass vs ticket: what's the difference?
In ClubApp, three things get you through a door with a QR code — your membership card, a pass, and an event ticket. They look similar, but each does a different job. Here's the plain-English version so members (and committees) never mix them up.
Your membership card
Your membership card is your ongoing identity at the club. It's how you check in, claim member discounts and get through the gate all season, and it lists the benefits your membership includes. You renew it each season, it carries your member number, and it can live in Apple or Google Wallet. One card, always you.
A pass
A pass lets you in more than once — think a 10-visit pass or a season pass, sometimes tied to a particular venue. The pass shows how many entries you have left (like "5 of 10", or ∞ for unlimited) and a valid-to date; each time it's scanned, your entries count down. You buy it in the app, it stacks with your membership card, and it too can go into your wallet. When the entries or dates run out, it simply stops working.
An event ticket
An event ticket gets you into one event, once — the trivia night, the presentation ball, a home final. You pick ticket types and quantities, enter attendee details, and each ticket has its own unique QR code that's scanned at the door and shows "Checked In". You can download a ticket as a PDF or share it with a friend so they have their own.
Side by side
| Membership card | Pass | Ticket | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gets you in | All season, ongoing | A set number of visits, or a season | One event, once |
| How many uses | Unlimited while current | Counts down (or unlimited) | Single use |
| Also gives | Member discounts & benefits | Entry to its venue/season | Entry to that event |
| Buy / renew | Join or renew in app | Buy in app, per pass | Buy per event |
| In your wallet | Yes | Yes | PDF / share |
The quick rule: the card is who you are, a pass is a bundle of visits, and a ticket is one night out. All three scan from your phone.
Which would your club use?
Most clubs use all three: a membership card for every member, passes for things like a gym, pool or a block of training sessions where people come and go, and tickets for one-off functions and fundraisers. Because they all live in the same app and scan the same way, members only ever learn one habit — bring up the QR and go.
All three live in My Wallet
However they differ, the card, your passes and your tickets now share one home: My Wallet, an always-on hub on the app's bottom bar. It brings them together with your saved payment methods and, where the club enables them, a Club Cash balance and co-branded sponsor vouchers — so there's a single place to find whatever gets you in or lets you pay. See the full tour in our guide to your My Wallet.
